Founding Engineer, Quadratic 2023–Now

Background
I was the first hire at this startup building a next-generation spreadsheet powered by code and AI, watching it grow from 0 to 350,000+ users.
Role
Product and visual design along with front-end engineering. I wore many hats, often taking ideas from concept to design to implementation, then measuring impact and iterating.

Director of Design, Remix 2022

Background
Remix is a web framework startup — acquired by Shopify — building an alternative to the client-heavy default of React apps.
Role
Design leadership, developer education, and hands-on UI and front-end work around data loading, routing, and the launch of React Router 6.4.
Examples
I wrote highly-valued articles by the community on topics like the edge and data flow in Remix. Here’s an example of my contributions to shipping React Router 6.4.

Director of Design, SageSure 2016–2022

Background
SageSure is an insurance company. I was there through a stretch of about 10x growth, from a small product team to a much larger org.
Role
I contributed in design, front-end engineering, and team leadership, helping lead the formation of a design system, high-impact business automations, internal design and front-end teams, and more.

UI Engineer, Timshel 2016

Background
Timshel was a startup building a platform for nonprofits and other social-impact orgs.
Role
Design and front-end engineering on the Admin app — the interface clients used to run their accounts.

I wrote about some of my hands-on work around unauthenticated UX and designing integrations.

Design Engineer, Postlight 2016

Background
I contracted with Postlight, a digital agency based out of New York City.
Role
Product design and front-end engineering for the view layer of two internal tools at Time Inc., working from drawings, wireframes, and prototypes to produce a production application used by thousands of internal employees.

Lead Designer, Kindling 2012–2016

Background
Kindling was a startup building social innovation software. It was acquired in 2016.
Role
I led product, brand, and marketing design, and wrote a lot of the front-end — the app, the marketing site, and the identity.

I posted a few write-ups on my blog about the work I did on the marketing site, pricing page, and more.

Web Designer, Arc90 2012

Background
Arc90 was a digital agency in New York City.
Role
Design and code for the agency’s web site as well as client projects.
